6 Things to do in Yucatan this summer

1.- Visit the Archaeological site of Mayapán: Beyond the crowds at other major sites, magnificent Mayapán is often overlooked but is equally important historically. 30 minutes from Mérida.

2.- Go to the Choco-story chocolate museum: Across the entrance to Uxmal. Taste a natural cacao beverage, watch the live crafting of hand-made ceramics, experience a Mayan ceremony, and spend time with the animals at the fauna refuge.

3.- Telchac Puerto: Visit this pretty seaside village and see its unique murals, done by artists Draya Madu and Rigel Sauri. Their art can be found on the façade of city hall and all around the town.

4.- Hacienda Yaxcopoil: On your way to Uxmal, visiting this hacienda is a trip to the past. Frozen in time, it has been preserved almost intact.

5.- Visit Cenotillo! This village about halfway between Izamal and Tizimín gets its name from the large number of cenotes located within the town and the outskirts – more than 150, according to the locals.

6.- Tixkokob: The town of Tixkokob is famous within the area for high quality hammock weaving. Located in the center of the Yucatán henequen zone, about halfway from Mérida to Izamal.
